NES had the best music, no contest. Sure, today's game music builds a far more grandiose soundscape, making gameplay that much more immersive. Still, I can't really "doodle-lee-bop" along with the GRAW soundtrack. Its just not the same. Those 8-bit tunes were anthems. To this day, the theme for Kraid's Lair in Metroid gives me the creeps and Michael from Maniac Mansion's funky soundtrack makes me want to hunt mad scientists. As a kid, I thought I was so cool for learning the Legend of Zelda theme on piano, and right now I have an iPod playlist dedicated to my favorite MegaMan II music: Flashman, Metalman, and several remixes of the opening. If you were raised right, I could doodle-lee-bop the melody from Mission 3 in Double Dragon and you'd instantly remember that bad guy jumping out of the tree with a flying kick that has no chance of hitting you ever.
